While our main job at PetVet Animal Hospital is taking care of the pets you love, another important part of our mission is being a good neighbor in the Auburn/Opelika area. We want to have a positive impact on the community we serve. We'd like to share with you some of the events and organizations with which we are involved.
Storybook Farm is a non-profit faith based organization that provides equine assisted activities for children experiencing physical, mental, social and emotional challenges. Storybook is a place where love and encouragement abound, friends are found around every corner and accomplishments are recognized and applauded. They help hundreds of children and their families every year and all of their services are provided at no charge to the families of the children they serve. While we do not treat horses, we do take care of the many dogs and cats that also call Storybook Farm home. If you would like to find out more about Storybook Farm, please see their website at www.hopeonhorseback.org.
Our Local Veterinary Schools
We are fortunate to have two excellent veterinary schools in our area. The Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine both attract students and faculty from all over the United States to our community. Dr. Brawner has assisted with teaching in dentistry labs at the Auburn University CVM and has spoken to the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association at both Auburn University and Tuskegee University. Dr. Brawner has also enjoyed his involvement with the AUCVM Veterinary Business Management Association club. These students are taking time outside of normal class hours to learn more about the business side of the veterinary profession.
The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts
PetVet Aminal Hospital is proud to be a supporter of the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts. Part of our mission as a business that serves this community is to make sure that we are giving something back. Supporting an organization like JCSM, and the arts in general, is part of that effort. We hope you'll take the opportunity to visit this beautiful museum and enjoy the many exhibits and programs they bring to this community.
Its not just college students that are interested in veterinary medicine. We also participate in programs at local pre-schools and elementary schools and have spoken to children at the Auburn Library. Dr. Brawner really loves these opportunities to encourage children to learn more about the care that their pets need and how that care is provided.
Auburn Parks and Recreation
In the spring of each year the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department hold it's Bark in the Park event at Kiesel Park. PetVet Animal Health Center is a routine participant in this event.
We also sponsor several youth sports teams (usually soccer).
We believe stongly in supporting local businesses whenever we can. Our local businesses are the lifeblood of our community. They provide jobs for the people of this community and provide tax revenue to support the many services that the cities of both Auburn and Opelika provide. We know it's not always possible, but please buy local when you can!
